EARTHLINK NEWS EARTHLINK AND LINKSYES TEAM UP TO HELP CONSUMERS SAVE MONEY ON INTERNET PHONE CALLS
Atlanta, GA and Irvine, CA — April 20, 2006 — EarthLink high speed internet service (NASDAQ: ELNK), the nation's next generation Internet service provider (ISP), and Linksys®, a division of Cisco Systems, Inc., today announced a co-marketed Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) hardware and service solution that gives broadband customers everything they need to make phone calls over the Internet.
Available at Fry's Electronics' more than 30 locations for consumers with a home broadband network, this VoIP solution features EarthLink's trueVoiceSM Internet phone service and a Linksys Phone Adapter (SPA2002-ER) or Wireless-G Router with 2 Phone Ports (WRT54GP2-ER).
"EarthLink and Linksys are making it easier for consumers to replace their traditional telephone with a less expensive, feature-rich Internet voice service," said Kevin Flaherty, vice president of retail channel sales for EarthLink. "This collaboration with Linksys offers retailers a ground-breaking opportunity to increase sales in a fast growing category. It capitalizes on EarthLink's leadership in Internet services and Linksys' retail strength in home and broadband networking solutions."
"This collaboration between Linksys and EarthLink will help drive the use of VoIP for making phones calls at home," said Glen McLaughlin, Linksys vice president of North American retail sales. "The ability to market hardware and service together enables us to make it easier for customers to purchase and set up VoIP on a home network, allowing for a better overall user experience."
Retail shoppers will be able to choose between two types of Linksys/EarthLink trueVoice start-up kits. One contains a Linksys Phone Adapter that works with a standard wired or wireless router, while the other includes a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router with a built-in phone adapter for home networking. Both kits provide products with 2 phone ports for connection of two standard home phones or fax machines.
