Subject: Spam on the Internet
Q:Juandice, I’m always getting e-mail that I don’t want! How do these people get my name and e-mail address? It’s so annoying. How do I stop getting all of this junk? Should I change my e-mail address? Please help me! Singed: Jenny from Wisconsin
A:Hello Jenny, you’re talking about Spam. Spam is the equivalent to junk mail that you get delivered through the postal system except now it’s through your e-mail. Spam is very annoying but I don’t suggest you change your e-mail address right away. Chances are you’ll get spam on a new e-mail address too, though maybe not too much in the beginning. Some things you can do to help prevent getting spam in the future is by reporting these e-mails to you ISP. Most high speed and dial-up internet service providers offer a link on their webmail page to report spammers (people or services that send spam). Don’t hesitate to report unwanted or unsolicited e-mails. You may prevent future spams by being very careful of where and who gets your e-mail address, though people trying to sell you things on the internet are very clever and often guess obvious e-mail addresses like "jenny@?.com" so nothing is totally foolproof. I hope this helps!
